Also, I went to mass today in Chinchero with Charlotte. It was the first time I've ever entered a Catholic church without paying. Isn't that funny? I loved today. Highlights: tried a grenadilla (fruit pictured)... AMAZING!, went to my first mass, got blessed water flung on my face, sat next to a 3 year old Quechua baby with Down Syndrome, ate a banana next to a donkey on a mountainside, and had some crazy new ice cream flavors. I also realized that between my room and the rest of the house is a hydrangea mini-garden.
There is a song on in Cross Keys right now that says "you're forgiven, not forgotten." I think (reflection thanks to CJ) that in Cusco, I have grown immensely, and connected to sweet Jesus in some awesomely new ways. Example: being in mass. having poop smeared on me. breathing a different air. all of the things I have learned and loved in Cusco have connected me more profoundly to the Maker than any past experience has. I think partially, it is the organic, non medicinal lifestyle that is so soothing. People work for food here. People eat for hunger. Isn't that riveting? I can't get enough.
Thinking of you all and wishing I could share a grenadilla.
Love!
