My friends are poor. Many are still workin' on the undergrad; in fact, only a handful have graduated. Of those that have graduated, many are on a perpetual job hunt, and many returned to uni for grad school. Generally speaking, we're not a lucrative people. We're damn funny, and pretty attractive, but not money makers. It's not our thing.
What I love about these poor broads is their sly generosity. Without succumbing to martyrdom, these girls have shirked car repairs, or a bar tab, to throw a few dollars my way. That's big.
Just thought I should say, I love these ladies, and am so proud of them-- for giving "as they were able, and even beyond their ability." Without attempt, they fit the mold of the Macedonian churches in 2 Corinthians 8.
What brought that passage to mind for me was Madeline's generosity. This girl has just moved herself across the country for a big girl job at Mogo. She's broke as a joke, and going through major stuff trying to start livin' solo in Seattle. But before her first paycheck, and before getting her windshield repairs, Mads threw her money into the pot. What a friend! And so, 2 Corinthians 8.
"In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people... For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have." 2 Corinthians 8: 2, 3, 12.
See? They're totes Macedonians.
We asked these boys to come get in our picture. Is that weird? Are you sure?
