1. Miguel Angel locked everyone out of the class for 30 minutes on Friday. Later that day, we found out his family calls him "Michel" which is why he doesn't readily respond to us. They've been calling him Miguel Angel for years.
2. I had lunch with Gigi's family Friday. The 20 year old boy in her house asked me typical questions about the States. Also, he seemed just like Stephen McKlosky.
- Do I like Coldplay?
- How are the donuts?
- Have I seen Good Burger?
- How do I feel about Keenan and Kel?
After this I laughed for the entire day. Question now posed to the blogging audience: How do you feel about Keenan and Kel?
3. I like hearing the perspectives on American government, law structure, medicine, faith and special needs. I really do love it, and I think everyone should get a similar global perspective (you should hear what the guy from Malaysia told me about the US!) But, I've also gotten it a LOT lately. I finally told someone that if our government and social structure does not directly affect you, I think it is unfair for you to impose your strong opinions on others.
4. I just could not listen to Grupo Cinco one more day, so I bought Dave, Celine, Michael and Jason CDs for my class. Nela really likes Celine so we've played her a lot lately. Arturo, my Autistic savant now knows some of the words to "I'm Alive." Couldn't be happier!
5. Strolled around my favorite market in Cusco today, I love their fresh flowers and fruits and wonderful little woven things. I also love San Pedro market because I am the only gringo when I go. I clearly stand out to them, but I feel like I get to disappear in their culture.
6. I just informed Gigi that the words to "Hey Jude" are indeed "Hey Jude" and not "Hey Jew."
7. I started compiling a list of things I'll miss and things I can't wait to have again. Here are some examples:
Things I will miss: markets, not driving, no access to fast food (instead, I go grab a plate of spaghetti for $1 in a small restaurant), the bean bag chairs at Bullfrogs, mountains every morning, thunderstorms every afternoon, my kids (of course!), the TV channel that only plays American crime shows, speaking Spanish (I consider myself fluent, although I don't think Peruvians would agree), Peruvian dancing (like walking in place but moving your hips too).
Things I can't wait for: supermarkets, pretzels, a living room, Athens!, my Mother, CHRISTMAS (I made my class color pictures of elves on Thursday), readily available diet coke, my butterfly bed.
8. Coming home two weeks from Tuesday! Crazy times.
9. Sorry for the long post, I miss doing things in English.
