It's Thanksgiving Eve, and I'm sitting amidst GAA paperwork counting my blessings. I am so ardently thankful for all that I have. I have dear friends from middle school, high school, and college who have lived with me in mutuality despite my flaws and whims. I have a fabulous job, doing what I love to do, and work with insanely supportive coworkers who lobby on my behalf. I have two parents who love me, and would own me again should my world ever collapse in the slightest. I have 3 sisters who share with me both blood and history. I have a home with a pantry full of food and a warm bed to sleep in. I am thankful deep in my marrow.

I am also thankful for the Peru Project. The catalysts for this project, Vivian, Shakira, and Arturo, continue to spur on my every day. When knee deep in bureaucratic mess at school, I have their pictures on my desk to remind me why I am a teacher. I carry them with me in the grocery store, when I think of how fortunate I am to buy even a frozen pizza. I carry them when I slip on my shoes. I carry them with me while researching for graduate school. They are with me when I wake and dread the day ahead. I want to provide all things for them-- I want to give them warmth and shoes and clothing and food and a community that values them. They are a reason that I live. I am nothing without them reminding me to be more. I am thankful for the ability to be a part of their lives from a distance, and I am thankful for the opportunity to see them again.
So, when you count your blessings this Thanksgiving, see if you have one to spare. Can you spare a few minutes for prayer? Can you spare a small donation?
Be a part of the Peru Project and give Vivian, Shakira, and Arturo one more reason to be thankful.
